Pilates Classes

Pilates workouts focus on building a strong healthy body by promoting concentrated movement. Compared to yoga exercise, Pilates is more dynamic. Pilates is designed to combine your breathing rhythm with the movement of your body. In Pilates exercise, you stabilise your torso while moving your arms and legs in different directions. This challenges your flexibility, balance, stability and strength.

For Pilates beginners, the exercises are hard at first because your body will need to adjust to the feeling of using supporting muscles for the balancing and strengthening movements. Start practicing slowly, as your body allows, and more exercises can be added to your routine once your body adapts.

Almost everyone can do Pilates

Classes run as courses (block of usually 5-7 weeks) costing £9 per person per class.
Classes at the Royston Complementary Health Centre will be charged at an introductory rate of £8.00 per person per class, again paid half-termly in advance. Places should be booked and paid for in advance. Please contact me by email or by telephone to book onto a Pilates course. If a space is available you will need to fill out an enrolment form. (Download your enrolment form here).

Class numbers are restricted to 12 to ensure maximum supervision and support from me as your instructor. If classes are full, your name can be placed on a waiting list. It is recommended that you attend a 1:1 assessment prior to enrolling onto a group course. A 1:1 is essential for all clients with a recent history of injury.

Ability levels: Group classes are taught at various levels of abilities, as classified below:

If you uncomfortable in a group class situation or feel you require one on one
attention then a private session may be more suitable. As you become more
confident with your Pilates routine you might find a group mat class situation
is a fun and social way to keep fit.

Pllates is commonly performed at a leisurely pace; you might want to pair the
class with another more intense aerobic exercise – such as swimming,
running, cardio-machines or a brisk walk to get your heart going.

What to bring/wear:
All the necessary kit, mats etc. are provided. We
exercise barefoot, wearing clothing that is non-restrictive and comfortable.

Please Note: Unfortunately there can be no refunds for missed classes but a
‘catch-up’ may be attended at a different time within the same course term,
provided space is available.
